NORTHWEST LOUISIANA
JUNIOR TEAM TENNIS

USTA Junior Team Tennis brings kids together for local match play with other junior players in NWLA. JTT promotes social skills and important values by fostering the spirit of cooperation and unity, as well as individual self-growth.

LOCAL PLAY WILL BE HELD SATURDAY APRIL 20th (& Sunday April 21st if needed) @ Pierremont Oaks Tennis Club

Winners of each division are eligible to attend the JTT 12U & 14U STATE TOURNAMENT in Baton Rouge in June 2024

Each Team consists of minimum 6 Players

Play Format:
• 2 Boys for Doubles & 1 for Singles
• 2 Girls for Doubles & 1 for Singles

Divisions:
• 10 & Under Intermediate (Local play only, 60-foot court, orange ball)
• 12 & Under Intermediate (78-foot, green ball)
• 14 & Under Intermediate (

Registration Deadline:
April 14th

Cost: $35 includes matches, fees, balls, snacks, medals

 Middle School Leagues (Fall)

Fall Middle School Tennis League Information

  • League will be overseen by the Northwest Louisiana Community Tennis Association (NWLACTA is a 501©3 Nonprofit)
  • A NWLACTA Junior Coordinator specifically
  • Season follows school year - Local League will be from September through November
  • Levels - 14U Green Ball – Beginner teams and 14U Yellow Ball-Intermediate teams
  • State Tournament – Location TBD – Late April – mid May
  • 5th Grade tennis players feeding into Middle School may be allowed to play
  • Each school will be able to apply for a FREE Net Generation bag of equipment for PE classes.

Local Play Format:

  • Minimum players for a team 6 – recommend at least 8 but no more than 10
  • Can have more than one team representing a school
  • 1 court boys doubles, 1 court girls doubles, 1 boys singles, and 1 girls singles
  • There will be 2 matches with 2 sets to 4 points, and if each team wins a set there will be a tie break - 7 points
  • Each game win counts as 1 point and the school with most points at end of season wins the local league (one for Bossier, one for Shreveport).
  • Each player must play 2x to qualify for state participation should their team win locally
  • Once school teams set will have a meeting on format, either 1-2 Day weekend tournament or 3 weekend (1day each weekend) league
  • A school coach/sponsor must attend all matches with the children and hand in the line ups.
  • If not a school employee, they must be USTA Safe Play approved before the first match. This is a free USTA certification
Costs:
  • 1-2 Day Weekend Tournament League the cost will be $30 per player
  • 3 weeks league the cost will be $40 per player
  • Schools may add a small uniform and coach stipend as needed. Want this to be affordable for anyone that wants to play.
  • The fee paid to the NWLACTA will include league play, medals for winners, and snacks.
  • A state stipend will also be given should the team attend state.
  • School and/or Coaches/Sponsors will collect the $fee from the parent. The school will write a check to the NWLACTA week before the first match.

  • League Play will be voted on, ie., 1 weekend tournament league or 3-week league play
  • Rules of Play will be distributed, going over difference between Green vs Yellow Ball play

    • Yellow Ball – Intermediate, some lessons and match play required
  • Registration opens for children to sign up for league and pay fees
  • Late September season begins and ends by Thanksgiving break

Financial Assistance Application

The Northwest Louisiana Community Tennis Association (NWLACTA) will offer financial assistance on an "as needed basis" to High School Tennis Players.

Minimum Criteria for Selection

  • Full-time student enrolled in a Caddo or Bossier Parish High School.
    • NOTE: Natchitoches Parish will also be considered with Coach Willie Paz approval
  • Current member of the USTA (free membership).
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Proof of household income may be requested.
  • Active tennis player
  • The NWLACTA Scholarship Committee uses the following criteria in its selection:
    • Financial Need
    • Grade Point Average
    • Extracurricular activities
    • Tennis participation
    • Letter of Recommendation/Confirmation of need

All sections of the application must be completed and requested documents attached. The NWLACTA Outreach Committee will review applications and notify all applicants by email about their decision.

This can be a reimbursement of tennis expenses already incurred in the current school year high school student is participating in tennis.

This application and assistance will be kept anonymous and confidential.

2024 College Scholarship Application

The Northwest Louisiana Community Tennis Association (NWLACTA) will offer 1 $1000 scholarship for the CURRENT academic year if the student plays varsity or club tennis and does not otherwise receive a full academic college or athletic scholarship.

Minimum Criteria for Selection

  • High School Senior
  • Current member of the USTA
  • Current resident of Northwest Louisiana with a permanent residence Caddo or Bossier Parish for one full school year
    • NOTE: Natchitoches Parish will also be considered with Coach Willie Paz approval
  • Annual Household income - Not required
  • Active tennis player who meets at least one of the following:
  • Been ranked in the top 500 in USTA Southern in past two years,
    • or Played on a high school team for two years,
    • or Played Junior Team Tennis, or
    • In an NJTL program for two years
  • The NWLACTA Scholarship Committee uses the following criteria in its selection:
    • Grade Point Average
    • Extracurricular activities
    • Tennis participation
    • Essay/Letter of Recommendation

You must complete all sections of the application and upload requested supplemental information including a transcript, short essay, and letter of recommendation or support letter.

The NWLACTA will announce scholarship recipients by mid May.
